Praiano beaches : La Gavitella and Marina di
Praia
When considering ferry travel to or from Praiano, several factors come into play:
La Gavitella and Marina di Praia are the two main beaches in Praiano, each with its unique characteristics:
- La Gavitella, also know for One Fire Beach Club: Situated in the town center below Piazza San Gennaro, this beach is accessed by approximately 400 stairs and doesn't have vehicle access. It's a small pebble beach with no sand and numerous stones in the shore, making it more suitable for capable swimmers rather than children. However, it boasts being one of the brightest beaches along the Amalfi Coast due to its west orientation. The sun shines on it for the longest hours, allowing late enjoyment of the sun until around 8:00 pm during the high season.
- Marina di Praia: Located at the eastern end of Praiano, Marina di Praia is a pebble beach accessible by vehicle or bus, with the town bus stop number 12 nearby. While it might not be the optimal choice for sunbathing or swimming due to its east orientation, which causes the sun to set around 4:00 pm, it serves as the location for many popular restaurants and some bars. Praiano's nightlife tends to be more active in this area, making it a hub for social activity in the evenings.
Both beaches offer distinct experiences—La Gavitella for its extended sun exposure and suitable conditions for swimming (albeit with some stones), and Marina di Praia for its social scene and proximity to restaurants and bars, despite its earlier sunset. Choosing between them might depend on personal preferences for sunbathing, swimming, or socializing.
